King Nebuchadnezzar sits on his throne and gestures toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, whom he is condemning to the fiery furnace because they would not worship his golden statue (Daniel 3:13-20). A palm tree separates the three from the king, emblematic of both their status as martyrs and the difference between them and the idolatrous king.
